While a layout is still being built: drop one in so spacing, aspect ratio and grid behaviour can be checked before the real asset exists. Choosing the final size early also prevents layout shifts later.

PNG or SVG — which should I pick?

SVG stays sharp at any scale and is only a few hundred bytes, which makes it ideal for web mockups. Pick PNG when a tool or platform does not accept SVG, or when you need a fixed-size raster asset.

No. The image is drawn in your browser from the settings you enter, and downloading never sends data anywhere.
